What is sparkling water, exactly?
Add pressurised carbon dioxide gas to normal tap water, and the result is carbonated, or 'bubbly' water. Sparkling water is fizzy and is a healthy alternative to other carbonated drinks like Coca Cola.
How do water taps create sparkling water?
The most common way to add carbon dioxide to water is via C02 canisters. These canisters contain highly pressurised gas. Here's how most top-of-the-line residential and water systems utilise C02 canisters to provide instant sparkling water.
- First, the water passes through water filters which contain activated carbon.
- With filters ranging as low as 0.2 microns in size, water systems strip nasty parasites like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and particles like lead from drinking water.
